About yoga4cancer Online Certificate Program:

Our 45 hour Certificate Program is required training to provide safe and effectively yoga interventions for cancer survivors in your community. With nearly 3,000 professionals have completed the program and are working in hospitals, cancer centers, yoga & healthcare studios and home all over the world.  Together, we are helping cancer survivors reduce the short and long term side-effects of cancer and cancer treatments and, ultimately, reduce their risk of recurrence. With 40% of the worlds population facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, there is greater need for more compassionate and trained yoga professionals to join our community.

The Online Certification Program is delivered 100% online & distance learning through carefully constructed online modules, reading materials, focused webinars and mentor support. The program format is designed for yoga and healthcare professionals who otherwise cannot physically join us for our various worldwide face to face training programs. We know that often the costs of travel or busy schedules create barriers to participate and gain certification. The evidence informed oncology training includes:

  • The physics and physiology of yoga
  • Facts and research about cancer and cancer treatments
  • Short and long term side-effects and how yoga can mitigate or reduce them
  • Appropriate and inappropriate poses
  • Methods and practice exploring how to talk about ‘cancer’ and be authentically supportive to survivors
  • Guidance on how to create an effective and safe class or practice
  • Hands on supervised practice teaching

Details of the Online Certificate Program:

  • 45 hour program delivered through videos, readings, quizzes, webinars, assignments, forum and practicum supervised via a mentor.
  • Go at your own pace’  – The pace of study is fully dependent on your preferences and availability.  We recommend a schedule of 3-5 hours per week but individuals can do more or less. Please note that despite the pace of learning, program access will close on October 1st, 2020, so all students should aim to complete the program before this date.
  • Rolling enrollment – The program is now a rolling enrollment or evergreen. Individuals can register anytime before May 31st, 2020. Program access is immediate and remain accessible until October 31, 2020.
  • Webinars – Seven individual webinars are included in the program.  Each are focused on specific topics of the online program to support comprehension and importantly build community.  All webinars are recorded and are available to participants that are unable to participate in the live session.
  • yoga4cancer Manual provides the latest research on yoga & cancer, guidance on poses, teaching tools and much more.  Additional required reading: Tari’s Yoga for Cancer book.
  • Ongoing support by Tari, y4c teachers and Mentor.
  • Certification: All graduates will receive a yoga4cancer Certificate, will be included in our trained teacher directory and will receive exclusive offers, grants and support. The program is registered with the Yoga Alliance as a Continuing Education Provider. Please review requirements here.

Technical requirements:

  • Computer with high speed internet access is required. Access from tablets (ipads) and smart phones is possible but not supported.
  • High level of computer proficiency is required by all participants.
  • Ability to video-record a 20 minute teaching practicum and upload to a cloud based program (Vimeo, YouTube, Google Drive or other).

Certification:

  • All participants that successfully complete the training will be provide y4c certification and be provided the opportunity to be listed on the y4c trained teachers directory. Additionally, we provide ongoing webinars, resources and grants for our trained teachers community.
  • Yoga Alliance CEU credits are awarded based on length of any of the training and individuals must be registered BEFORE the training program begins.  Please review all the YA requirements. These credits are applicable to most +300 to 500 advanced teacher trainings.

Successful Participants:

Yoga Professionals: The y4c training is recommended for certified experienced yoga teacher starting at the 200 hour level from any lineage. It is recommended that participants have teaching experience of more than 1 year to absorb the maximum benefits of this training program.

Oncology Professionals: About 30% of y4c trainings include oncology and healthcare professionals who have a personal yoga practice and believe yoga can and should play a large role in cancer patients’ wellness plan and included in the Oncology & Cancer Centers’ services.  Approval of application is required.

Other Wellness Professionals: Healthcare professions such as physical therapist, social workers, massage therapists, pilates instructors etc. are encouraged to apply. As the number of cancer survivors grows world wide, the specific focus on cancer enhances the knowledge base of all other professions. A solid personal yoga practice must be demonstrated.  Approval of application is required.
